The Assessment Process
Most organizations recognize that the quality of their leadership
determines the level of organizational success. Inappropriate
executive selection may result in enormous financial costs as
well as lost productivity and damage to staff morale.
Individual assessments by external consultants provide a powerful
way of obtaining the objective, comprehensive information needed
for sound hiring, promotion and developmental decisions. Executive
Assessments have the greatest benefit when used by organizations
to assist in:
Critical
senior appointments
Identification
of executive potential and/or recommendations for development
Implementation
of organizational changes which demand new skills or the creation
of new positions
Our executive assessment process requires that we spend approximately
two half days with the individual being assessed. The first half-day
is used for psychometric self-assessments and an in-depth career/biographical
interview which reviews the individual's academic and career history
and progression. The CCI Leadership Institute uses only state-of-the
art assessment instruments that have been extensively researched
and appropriately validated.
The second half-day session takes place once the assessment has
been completed and is used to provide the individual with face-to-face
feedback through an experienced professional.
In addition to psychometric instruments, our assessment process
uses a multi-rater, or 360 degree, feedback instrument to provide
objective ratings by the individual's peers, subordinates and
superior. To further strengthen the assessment process, interviews
are held with the individual's superior and at least one colleague
and one subordinate. All of the information gathered through the
multi-rater and interview phases is kept strictly anonymous.
The results of the psychometric assessments, the multi-rater
feedback and the interviews are synthesized into a customized
Executive Profile Summary that:
is used
as the basis for the feedback session with the executive
provides
an analysis of the individual's current and potential executive
competencies
identifies
key areas requiring development
provides
a range of possible development actions
A separate, more detailed Developmental Plan may be prepared
for the individual, if so desired.
Additional Coaching Assistance
As an option, the CCI Leadership Institute can provide additional
coaching, following the assessment process, to help individuals
develop the key executive competencies required for promotion
and/or more effective performance in their existing positions.
This assistance is provided through executive coaches and mentors
who have extensive experience, not only in coaching, but also
as public or private sector executives.
The coaching option serves as a confidential mechanism for reviewing
progress related to the developmental requirements identified
in the assessment process. As well, on-going coaching is often
regarded as a crucial element in the adult learning process.
The structure of the coaching option and the activities related
to it are quite flexible and can easily be adapted to the clients'
needs. The frequency and timing of the coaching sessions, for
example, are arranged to suit the executive and his or her requirements.
